Mona Pennypacker

    Mona Pennypacker, using the computer as an artist’s tool, has been creating visual art pieces and experiences since 1992. Mona continues to study and create artwork in various mediums, including drawing, painting, book arts, fiber, assemblage, computer design and video production. She was born in New Mexico and has spent the majority of her life in the Southwest between El Paso, Texas, New Mexico and Colorado.

    Mona was originally trained as a drafts-woman and a printmaker at the Maryland Institute College of Art where she earned her degree in General Fine Arts with a minor in Latin American Art History. In 1995 she moved to Colorado to study the book arts. While there she enrolled in a silk painting/batik course and quickly fell in love with the medium. Mona began making scarves for herself, as well as her family and friends in 1998. She worked as an arts administrator at several nonprofit arts organizations, as well as the Denver Art Museum, for nine years before deciding to try to make her living with her own art work. And by 2001 she was working full time to establish her new fiber art business, Silks.M.

    In 2003, Mona was a partner in starting which sold art and handmade items by a variety of contemporary artists. Along with these full time jobs, Mona ran another company called Interactive Studios. Established in 1999, Interactive Studios was an independent mutli-media design and development firm.
